Naomh Gall Minor Footballers are through to a Championship semi-final meeting with neighbours, Naomh Eoin, following an enthralling game against a powerful Glenavy team on Tuesday evening (9th August). On a glorious night for football, conditions were perfect for two evenly matched teams to slug it out for a last four spot. Glenavy had comfortably won the league encounter by 3 clear goals earlier in the season and it was goals again which were the difference between the sides, with the Milltown lads coming out on top this time. Michael Fox responded immediately to Glenavy's explosive 1st minute opening goal by finishing to the net following an impressive move started from Jack McCrea's kick out and featuring Conor Burke. Mark Cummings started the second half in equally emphatic fashion by rifling past the Glenavy cúl báire from a narrow angle to put Naomh Gall one point to the good. Things were nip and tuck throughout with Glenavy leading 1-5 to 1-4 at the break. Cummings (3 points, 0-2 frees) and Mark Napier kept the team in touch, with the Gallagher brothers in the Glenavy midfield posing headaches. Mark Cummings added a point in the second half with the hard working Conor Quigg adding two from the tightest of angles and Captain, Declan McCavana, sealing the win right at the end with a great score under serious pressure. The final score of 2-8 to 1-9 gives the right impression of a classic championship encounter and credit must be given to a fine Glenavy team who played extremely well throughout. However, it is Naomh Gall who plough on and will have a serious job on their hands to overturn a 4-15 to 1-4 league defeat to the Corrigan Park men at the start of June! Foireann Naomh Gall: Jack McCrea; James Hopkins, Conor Loughran, Piaras Webb; Jackson McGreevy, Declan McCavana, Paul Smyth; Conor Burke, Darragh Loughlin; Ruairí Wilson, Daniel Clarke, Conor Quigg; Mark Cummings, Michael Fox; Cormac Bradley. Ionadaithe: Mark Napier for M. Fox (gortaithe), Stephen Garland for M. Napier, Daragh Monaghan, Nathan Chada, Emmet Loughran
