Ladies Football League

History was recently made in the club, when for the first time our ladies fielded a second senior team in division 2 of the all county league.  A team made up of players from the senior squad, girls from the minor team and one or two ‘mums’ took to the bottom field for a well contested game against St.Teresas.  After a well fought first half Naomh Gall led by 1-3 to 1-1. Scores from Maread McGurk and Caoimhe McArdle secured the half time lead.
In the second half the away side came out fighting and fought to the end with some fine performances.  For the galls girls Fiona Johnson was superb. Team Captain Bronagh Bradley had an influential game, and her sisters Orlaith and Catriona also gave impressive displays, with Orlaith McKernan dominant in midfield.
Well done to all.  Final score Naomh Gall 1-6 St.Teresa 1-1

On Monday night the senior team travelled to Randalstown for their first league encounter against the newly promoted Tir Na Nog.  The home side fought very hard to compete with the visitors, and their ‘never say die attitude’ was a credit to ladies football.  Some areas of the pitch saw extremely difficult and competitive battles.  Cuisle Wilson came into her first ever senior game at midfield and her attitude, discipline and talent must see her feature regularly.  This team are getting into their stride again after a lengthy and deserved break.
Monday’s game, although a comfortable victory, was the physical battle needed to dust of a few cobwebs!

Cross Eyed & Spied

Saturday afternoon brought a welcome journey to Randalstown for the first Ulster Hurling League game.  This year has brought much debate about the future and direction of hurling in the club, but after this spirited performance  everyone associated concluded that hurling is very much alive, and the future is promising.
